ECKA Granules Metal Powders

On the 1st July 2008, ECKA UK moved into its new manufacturing facility north of Birmingham.

Some 18 months after a serious fi re damaged the old factory, a new state of the art facility has been designed and erected in the town of Wednesbury, 15kms north of the old factory. The existing employees have all transferred to the new facility thus ensuring a smooth transitional period. The new facility, which is the most modern facility in its market sector, consists of 2 gas atomisation lines and 1 water atomisation line, with capacity to produce in excess of 3,000 tonnes per annum of Nickel, Cobalt and Stainless Steel powders for the thermal spray, surface coating and welding industries.

The atomisation process is fully automated and controlled via PLC’s to ensure minimum batch to batch variation and maximum effi ciency. With the re-start of ECKA MPL UK, we have expanded our product portfolio with powders having high production depth and special production knowhow – see ECKA MPL UK Products.

Under these circumstances we have the possibility to tap into completely new markets such as special iron powder for liquid-phase filters. In addition to producing traditional powders for the main markets, ECKA MPL UK, through several initiatives e.g. Department of Trade and Industry and the Economic and Social Research Council, is actively involved in the development of powders for the cold gasspray and Metal Injection Moulding Technology. Signifi cant resources and investment have been utilised to develop an ability to manufacture “finer” products to meet these new challenges, enabling ECKA to be at the forefront of the developments. ECKA MPL UK recently exhibited at the ITSC in Maastricht and launched a new surface coatings catalogue into the marketplace.
